Hi everyone, My name is Carlye and I own and breed Catahoula Leopard Dogs. My husband and I work the dogs on cattle as well as coon hunting them and heading south for the occasional hog hunt and trial weekend. We also conformation show our dogs because we like to throw our money away to trot around a ring! I'm helping John out by maintaining this forum and the OSDA site, so if you have any concerns regarding either, let me know.

Hey Carlye, i've checked out your dogs on another form and they are really nice. When the time comes for a new addition I might give you guys a call. Tell me though do Catahoula's have a cold noses or are they a hot nosed dog?
Rich.

Catahoulas are hot nosed. They will actually switch tracks if they come across a hotter one and will leave a track all together if they sight what they're after.

Hey i was wondering were catahoulas bred for coons or were they always a cattle dog? Do you think they have the grit to be bear dogs?

xbolt - we coon hunt our dogs, more to keep them sharp and in shape in our off season, but they love it. We actually sold a pup to a guy in West Virginia a couple of years ago for hunting bear, and he likes him. He said he's too hot nosed to make a complete all around bear dog, but he said that when he drops him on a hot track after the hounds are whooped, that bear is either caught or treed. I don't know a whole lot about bear hunting, but I can give you his e-mail if you want to ask him some questions.
