Did any one see the show on cbc today about all the townships that are having trouble with bears they are now saying that they are just shooting the bears as they just return to where they came from within two or three days ( OOPS DID WE NOT TELL THEM THAT BEFORE THE HUNT WAS CANCELED) Now omafra is involved and are raising hell about predation on live stock by bears ( I AM SURE WE WARNED MNR THAT WAS GOING TO HAPPEN BUT I GUESS WE AINT BIOLOGISTS JUST HUNTERS AND TRAPPERS WHO ARE IN THE FIELD EVERY DAY WITH MORE TIME IN THE FIELD THAN MOST OF MNR STAFF WILL GET IN THEIR WHOLE CAREER ) It seems funny to me that everyone in Ontario knows the cancellation of the spring hunt was a big mistake but there is not one politician in this province that will stand up to the antis and bring back our spring hunt? ??

I welcome the day when bears are running down the Don or Humber river ravines . The line , " you must learn to live with them " and " human encroachment on bear country " would be used in protest to them being shot by the police .

They should relocate the bears to University Avenue, give them a few dumpsters to entertain them selves while they are there. With this strategy we could reduce the "city slickers" from wasting their time travel ling north to see the bears they wanted saved . ;D

I'm all for relocating nuisance bears to Toronto. Afterall, it is part of their traditional range and re-establishing them there would only be natural.

dominionlink I think if you were to trap these nuisance animals you might get a bit more of a response by relocation of these bears on the front steps of the parliament buildings in Ottawa. We may even get a spring bear hunt back. LOL

I just got a phone call from a gentleman in kirkfield today he has a bear breaking into his house on a regular basis about five times this month. He called MNR repeatedly this month and asked for help Thursday they told him to shoot it when he replied that he did not own a gun as he was not a hunter he was told to try to find some one to kill it the bear that is as they did not want anything to do with it THIS IS RIDICULOUS AS MNR IS QUITE HAPPY TO TAKE MONEY FOR LICENSES AND THEY WERE THE ONES WHO MADE BEARS A BIG GAME ANIMAL AND THERE THE ONE WHO CONSTANTLY RUN AROUND BOTHERING HUNTERS WHILE THEY ARE TRYING TO HUNT WHAT A JOKE WE PAY THEM FOR LICENSES THEY FINE US FOR MAKING AN INFRACTION ( MORE MONEY IN THERE POCKETS ) BUT WHEN A MEMBER OF THE PUBLIC HAS WHAT IS POTENTLY A DANGEROUS SITUATION THEY SAY SORRY NOT OUR PROBLEM MAYBE IF WE PAYED THEM ( OH YEH WE ALREADY DO ) THAT'S WHAT OUR LICENSES AND TAX DOLLARS ARE SUPPOSED TO DO TAKE CARE OF THE PUBLIC AND THE SAFETY OF ALL CANADIAN CITIZENS MAYBE ITS TIME THEY DONE THE JOB THEY ARE PAYED TO DO

@ johnb417- Did the MNR at least give him a "Bearwise" package? Surely if he stored his garbage more carefully and took down any bird feeders, the bear would just go away.
Seriously, this sounds like a story that the media and OFAH should be getting involved with. I'm willing to bet that the Ontario Conservatives and the Conservative Natural Resources Critic would like to hear about MNR staff, under this Liberal government, not responding to a bear that is repeatedly breaking into someone's home. Pictures of the damage would be useful too.

John
Whats the point of going to the Star or Sun.. those papers are from Toronto and the only BARES they are familar with are at the Zanizbar. Call Robert Shade, maybe he will loan them some plastic bottles to case them away.......or maybe Pamela Anderson, and she would chase it away.
